Social enterprise’s 12-week Elements programme recruits people with lived experience

Clean Slate is on the lookout for people with lived experience of hardship for work and training opportunities.

The social enterprise’s 12-week Elements programme – short for ‘Experts with Lived Experience supported by Mentorship’ – currently has places funded by Health Education England (HEE).

Recruits, known as Peer Workers, are signed up for eight days of free online HEE training. The course focuses on mental health and is split across the three months that the Peer Worker spends with Clean Slate.

There’s also the option to undertake extra training, such as a Level 2 in Information, Advice and Guidance.

And the flexible, paid work can be in anything from working with Clean Slate’s own support services to placements focusing on support, catering or housekeeping in a care/health centre.

The placements are available in the South West and Gloucestershire.

Before coming to the UK from Ukraine, Liudmyla was a social worker. She enrolled on Elements and was delighted at how it not only got her into work but also helped her improve her English.

“I think the Elements programme is very unique,” she says. “It works for people who don’t have the same experience professionally as me, because of this programme they can find their own way to develop.

“Clean Slate was an amazing part of my life and a great experience. All your staff inspired me and believed in me. I believe in myself.”
