Equipping Advisors for Universal Credit Challenges

Quids in! Professional Network equips frontline workers to support vulnerable Universal Credit claimants amid critical migration phase.

As the UK government accelerates the transition from legacy benefits to Universal Credit (UC), Quids in! Professional Network is offering timely training to prepare frontline workers for the challenges ahead. Scheduled for March 10th and 11th, 2025, this online course aims to equip non-welfare and non-finance specialists with the necessary skills to support claimants through this significant change.

Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) claimants are among the most vulnerable during this transition. Many face complex health issues and may struggle with the administrative demands of migrating to UC. DWP reports indicate that over 180,000 individuals lost their benefits after failing to respond to migration notices between July 2022 and March 2024. This underscores the urgency for effective support systems to assist claimants during this critical period.

The ‘Preparing for Universal Credit’ training spans two half-day sessions. The first session, ‘Universal Credit: Mastering the Mechanics,’ delves into the technical aspects of UC, including application processes and payment schedules. The second session, ‘Practical Steps: Helping Claimants Navigate UC,’ focuses on developing strategies to assist claimants in managing budgets, navigating rent payments, and reducing reliance on crisis services.

A previous participant praised the training, stating: “Your expertise and ability to break down complex topics made the learning process much easier and enjoyable. You have equipped our team with the knowledge and confidence to help others with any challenges they may face.”

By enhancing their understanding and practical skills, frontline workers can play a pivotal role in mitigating the risks of benefit disruptions for ESA claimants.

To further support this transition, Quids in! published the 13th edition of their Universal Credit Guide. This plain English guide provides clear, no-nonsense guidance and signposts additional support, aiming to demystify the complexities of UC for claimants. Organisations, landlords, and local authorities can purchase bulk copies to distribute to those in need, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to accurate and practical information.
