7 Signs is our programme helping unemployed people explore different ways to think about work. It was designed for people facing bigger barriers or gaps in their work history, people who didn’t believe they were ready for a job or that employers were ready for them. But people of all backgrounds have found it helps to motivate them, boost their confidence and set inspiring goals.
The complete programme takes place across two full days or four half days, but also stand alone as two events:
- Quids in! Confidence-Building (a ‘7 Signs’ day session for unemployed people)
- Quids in! Thinking About Work (a ‘7 Signs’ day session for unemployed people)
There are no ‘teachers’. Professional facilitators encourage discussion between the real experts: jobseekers themselves. Attendees explore how much they have to offer and consider what sort of work they might be best suited for. People home in on their ideal job and ways to overcome any obstacles that might be in their way.
Refreshments are available and, for full-day events, lunch is provided. Travel costs can be covered in some cases.

Paid work
7 Signs was originally designed as a pre-employment preparation programme for people wanting to work for Clean Slate Training & Employment CIC. We now work in partnership with a number of employment, skills and recruitment agency initiatives supporting unemployed people, helping match jobseekers to suitable opportunities.
Clean Slate’s Elements programme offers twelve weeks of short-hours, paid, work experience in its Quids in! Centres. (See currently funded locations here.) Trainees are recognised as ‘experts through lived experience’ and receive professional standards training and access to accredited courses. To join the programme, participants must first attend the two 7 Signs event days.
Elements helps bring lived experience and representation from all communities where we deliver financial resilience and employment support into Clean Slate and the wider advice and support sectors. We work in partnership with employers from the advice and support sectors, as well as health and care sectors, utilising 7 Signs and Elements to fill a range of vacancies.
