‘Big Reveal’: Exclusive Findings from the Quids in! Cost of Living Survey

Findings from the Quids in! Cost of Living Survey show low-income households stuck between a rock and a hard Place

Low-income households are caught between a rock and a hard place. On one side, government policies are cutting welfare spending and pushing people into work. On the other, the soaring cost of living is making survival even harder. What are hard-pressed consumers to do? And how can those of us who support them step up?

Our ‘Big Reveal’ Webinar is an urgent response to these challenges, offering exclusive insights from the latest Quids in! Cost of Living Survey (2025). This session is a must-attend for anyone working to support people on low incomes.

What You’ll Learn:

We surveyed over 1,000 low-income households to understand how financial struggles are impacting their daily lives. Headline findings include:

  • 61% of working-age people who feel unable to work report feeling frightened, anxious, or depressed (compared to 41% across all groups).
  • 54% have had to skip meals (compared to 34% on average).
  • 56% turned off their heating despite being cold (51% average).
  • 45% fell behind on bills (compared to 29%).
  • Only 7% feel ready to make or earn more money.
Why These Findings Matter

These figures highlight the urgent need for a better approach to supporting low-income households. With new welfare reform announcements pushing more people towards employment, we must understand how financial and emotional struggles affect their ability to work. How can we soften the blow and provide meaningful support? By gaining deeper insight into their challenges, we can shape better policies, services, and employment pathways that truly help those in need.

Key Discussion Points:
  • Uncovering the real impact of the rising cost of living on individuals and families with limited resources.
  • Gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by low-income households.
  • A money-first approach to employment support, including guidance for claimants forced to become jobseekers.
  • Re-imagining recruitment pathways as tools to inspire and motivate people to believe in their potential.
