Money Guiders: Paving the Path Out of Debt

As the digital-first agenda reshapes the world around us, this webinar explored the future of digital, hosted by Quids in! Money Guidance, in partnership with the Money Guiders Wales Network. This session delved into the crucial yet often overlooked role of money guiders in supporting individuals out of debt. This event focused on the needs of Welsh communities but offered universal insights for everyone.

Jeff Mitchell, founder of Quids in! Money Guidance, and former Managing Director of The Big Issue, highlighted how support workers outside the regulated debt advice space play a pivotal role in helping people navigate unpaid bills and avoid homelessness. He says: “I’ve heard debt advisors describe financial literacy activity as ‘the fluffy stuff’ but we can do a lot of the heavy lifting while participants languish on long waiting lists for help.” Themes included:

• The role of promoting financial literacy to reduce debt
• Practical steps for conducting budget reviews and income maximisation
• Building trust and paving the way into formal debt advice services
• Reality checks and coaching people towards positive lifestyle choices
