New to Clean Slate, new to Radstock: Here’s how I’m helping locals access free money guidance and why community partnerships matter.
As I wrap up my first month at Clean Slate and transition from my induction into delivering our Quids in! Money Guidance Programme, it’s been fantastic to get out into the community. Alongside supporting people via telephone and preparing to help run two weekly drop-ins, one in Twerton (August 2026) and a new service at Radstock Community Library, I recently took the opportunity to introduce myself to local partners and residents over a shared meal.
What We Do at Clean Slate
For those unfamiliar with our work, Clean Slate is a UK social enterprise and Community Interest Company (CIC). We support people on low incomes or experiencing financial hardship to take control of their finances and become better off. Through our Quids in! Money Guidance Programme, we offer practical, non-judgemental support online, over the phone, and through face-to-face community drop-ins across Bath, Bristol, and beyond.
Sharing a Meal with Bath Community Kitchen
About a year ago, through my previous work with the Bath Digital Divide Collective, I visited the Bath Community Kitchen in Twerton and experienced firsthand the power of their initiative. Run by Rob Lewis and a dedicated team of volunteers, this amazing project uses local surplus food to provide free, healthy, and delicious weekly meals for local people.
While I had enjoyed their meals before, I had yet to visit their newer Wednesday night community dinner in Radstock. Since I will soon be based just across the road on Tuesday afternoons, it was the perfect chance to reconnect with Rob, enjoy a meal, and meet the local community.

The menu was enticing, the food was delicious, and I had some great conversations with local residents over dinner, though I had to slip away before dessert to get my two little monkeys at home to bed! (The dinner was a complete success, bedtime, slightly less so!)
Rob shared that he thinks Clean Slate’s work is invaluable, and we are both keen for the services to work closely together so people can easily access both nutritional and financial support whenever they need it.
A Warm Welcome at Radstock Library
Before dropping off flyers and chatting with Rob, I took a tour of Radstock Community Library to familiarise myself with the space, and meet the lovely team. The staff are wonderfully enthusiastic and genuinely looking forward to having a long-term Clean Slate presence in the building.
Radstock Community Library feels like a fantastic accessible new base for Clean Slate, quiet, friendly, and with a private space for sensitive conversations about money. I’m excited to play my part in this next phase of growth for Clean Slate alongside the wider expert team.
